9 days until IPv4 is exhausted
The time which network people have been trying to ignore for years is nearly here. The day when the Internet runs out of IP addresses. Its been on the cards for years, IPv6 has been around for over 10 years, and was even a protocol option which could be installed with Windows XP. However organisations and people have been putting off the change, it probably would of been better if the switchover was started 10 or even 5 years ago. But now the Internet has almost ran out of addresses on IPv4 which a lot of routers people have at home only support, and the solution which is IPv6 is only supported by a smaller number of Websites or ISPs, and if they did support it, much of the hardware people have for their Internet connections, only supports IPv4. What will happen in the long term will be Interesting, first few days or weeks, we will probably see no affect is issue, though can see in a few months time people and companies having issues with putting new servers online, trying to secure sites with SSLs, and Internet Providers just generally trying to increase the capacity of their network and needing IPs for the new pipe to use.
